BOONE. N.C. — Appalachian State University’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) — awarded by the Walker College of Business (WCOB) — will be offered online, for the first time, beginning this fall. The application deadline to enroll in the program is July 1.
“Through our new online MBA, we’re delivering the same high-quality education but with more flexibility,” said Walker College Acting Dean Sandra Vannoy.
Appalachian’s MBA is continually recognized by national publications such as The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report and was named a Tier One program in CEO Magazine’s 2019 Global MBA Rankings.
The new MBA offering helps support the university’s goal for slow and steady enrollment growth while simultaneously meeting industry needs and student demands, Vannoy added.
Dr. Ben Powell, Appalachian’s interim vice provost for online learning, said, “The online MBA will provide students a personal, high-quality experience and continue the tradition of extensive and meaningful interaction between faculty and students that is an Appalachian hallmark.
“The college’s leadership has taken the time and care needed to develop a program that combines the trusted educational experience for which the Walker College is so well known with a convenient and flexible format to accommodate working professionals,” he continued.
Dr. Tim Forsyth, WCOB’s acting associate dean for graduate programs and research, said the addition of the online MBA will allow Walker College to “train more students to do business for good.”
“Our online classes will be taught by the same faculty members who teach in the on-campus MBA program,” he explained. “And, consistent with our on-campus mission, we are committed to maintaining small class sizes and providing online MBA students opportunities for direct interaction with our faculty.”
All MBA students learn both practical and theoretical applications that provide a well-rounded business education, providing the skills today’s employers demand.
Graduates of the program will be equipped with the following core set of competencies:
- Functional business knowledge.
- Leadership and teamwork skills.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Responsiveness to domestic and global business environments.
- Appreciation for diversity and multiculturalism, as well as ethical and legal responsibilities.
- Professional development and communication skills.
The 36-credit hour program will provide a flexible, part-time schedule for participants, and Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) and Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) waivers are available to eligible applicants.
