BOONE, N.C. — Justin Schroeder ’24 MGT of Matthews, North Carolina has earned the Future Business Leaders of America – Collegiate’s 2024 national champion for Parliamentary Procedure.
Parliamentary procedure pertains to the processes groups use to facilitate meetings and meet goals efficiently.
Schroeder earned the title during FBLA’s National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida, where he and five others represented Appalachian State University June 24-27.
All six students attended workshops and panels for professional development and leadership skills, and each was recognized during the Awards of Excellence ceremony for placing in the top 10 of at least one competitive event.
The App State representatives and accolades are as follows.

- Addison Kocell, 3rd place in Hospitality Case Study
- Shanaoha Locklear, 9th place in Impromptu Speaking
- Sydney Mills, 3rd place in Finance Case Study and
- Justin Schroeder, 1st place in Parliamentary Procedure
- Carson Smith, 3rd place in Hospitality Case Study and 6th place in Sports Management and Marketing
Schroeder was additionally recognized for being an active member in the national program of work for the year and received the bronze seal of excellence for engagement and collaboration. He has served as the North Carolina state chapter vice president of communications throughout the 2023-2024 school year and will serve as president for the 2024-2025 year.
Schroeder said the events provided opportunities to apply their classroom concepts in a competitive environment, and the conference allowed for further growth and collaboration. “We had the amazing opportunity to network and connect with over a thousand students and faculty nationwide,” he said.
“When we reflected on the accumulation of all we achieved this past year, our team felt indebted to the support of the dean's office and faculty of App State for giving us the support and guidance we needed,” said Schroeder. “Additionally, we are grateful for the incredible Bean 2 Brew initiative, where many members volunteered throughout the year to help cover the costs associated with these trips we take.”
The Beans 2 Brew Coffee Shop offers hands-on business experience to students and helps fund operations of the Walker College’s business clubs and student organizations. In addition to staffing the coffee shop during business hours, the clubs involved specialize in their particular field to contribute to the endeavor.
FBLA is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) education association with more than 200,000 middle school, high school, and college members that aims to inspire and prepare students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.
