Two staff members in the Walker College of Business have been selected to participate in the 2024 BRIDGES Academic Leadership Program.
Cele Burt and Amy Odom join 37 others from higher education institutions across the state to participate in the program coordinated by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The name BRIDGES signifies the program's goal to bridge the gap between women's current roles in academia and their potential for leadership positions, providing the necessary tools, skills, and networks to facilitate this transition.
Cele Burt
Cele Burt is a graduate student services associate in the Office of Advanced Studies in Business (formerly the Graduate Programs & Research Office).
Burt, who joined the Walker College in July 2020, previously worked in accounting at the ASU Foundation, and, prior to that as an HR Manager for a Raleigh-based industrial construction firm and as a budget manager for an international non-profit organization.
Burt earned a BBA in human resources management from Baylor University and a Master of Arts in higher education leadership from App State. She holds a SHRM-CP certification from the Society for Human Resource Management and is a North Carolina Association of International Educators member.
Amy Odom
Amy Odom is executive director of the college’s Business Career Services, where she directs the department to cultivate aspiring business leaders by delivering professional, leadership and career development opportunities.
Before joining App State’s staff in 2010, Odom worked in the events and hospitality industry, executing large-format corporate events and real estate and development launches.
Odom is a two-time App State alumna, having earned a bachelor’s degree in 2003 and a Master of Arts in higher education in 2021. She currently serves on the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Watauga Women in Leadership Board and is a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers.
