IT Camp for Middle School Students, June 22-26
Girls Geek Out ™, a summer camp for rising seventh through ninth‑grade students, will be held June 22–26, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., introducing participants to careers in information technology (IT) and cybersecurity.
Campers will engage in team‑based, hands‑on projects introducing information technology and cybersecurity concepts while building leadership, communication and problem‑solving skills. Guided by Appalachian State students studying computer information systems and cybersecurity, participants will assemble computer components, connect computers into a network and build an app, with opportunities to meet regional IT professionals and see how technology is used to address real‑world business challenges.
Although the program is titled Girls Geek Out, the camp is open to all rising seventh through ninth‑grade students.* Enrollment is limited to 30 campers, and the cost of the camp is $450 per participant. Need-based scholarships are available to help ensure that cost is not a barrier for interested students.
Register online at girlsgeekout.org or contact camp director Tamara Haines at info@girlsgeekout.org or (828) 262-6184.
