When Carmen Concepcion arrived at Appalachian State University, she set out to make the most of every opportunity available to her. Through the Walker College of Business’s Accelerated Master’s Program, Carmen earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2025, double-majoring in Finance and Banking and Marketing, and is now completing her Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Business Analytics.
From the start, Carmen focused on getting involved and building connections that would shape her academic and professional path.
Throughout her time at App State, she held multiple leadership roles across campus, serving as Vice President of Finance for the Executive Impact Club, Collegiate Sales Society, and her chapter of Alpha Phi.
Carmen was also selected as one of eight students to represent Appalachian State in the Women in Financial Services Initiative in New York City, where she connected with industry professionals and explored career opportunities in finance.

“Getting involved early made a huge difference for me,” she said. “It helped me build connections, gain confidence, and take advantage of opportunities I wouldn’t have found otherwise.”
Alongside her involvement, Carmen has worked in the Walker College of Business Dean’s Office for the past three years, where she serves as a key representative of the college. In her role, she regularly engages with faculty, staff, and members of the Board of Advisors, helping create a welcoming and professional experience.
She credits her manager, Mandy Southern, for playing a significant role in her growth.
“Mandy has been an incredible mentor during my time in the Dean’s Office,” she said. “Her support and encouragement have shaped my experience, and I genuinely could not imagine my college journey without her.”
One of the most meaningful moments of her time at App State was speaking at the 2025 Walker College of Business Scholarship Reception.

“That experience gave me the opportunity to reflect on everything I had accomplished and made me even more motivated to keep building on that momentum," Carmen said.
She also credits the support of faculty in the Walker College of Business for helping her succeed.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my professors,” Carmen said. “They challenged me and pushed me to take advantage of every opportunity available.”
Following graduation, she will begin her full-time role with Bank of America in July after completing two internships with the company, building on the experiences and connections she developed during her time at App State.
“Everything I’ve been involved in has built on each other,” she said. “I’m excited to take what I’ve learned here and apply it in my career!”
