Scott Bowie Gray to serve as director of sustainable business and resilience for the Walker College of Business

Scott Bowie Gray has been named director of sustainable business and resilience in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University, effective July 1, 2026.

Gray, a lecturer in the Department of Management, joined App State’s faculty in 2021. He previously worked in the capital markets on a global scale as a strategy developer and implementer. 

“Scott brings a deep passion and an exciting vision for our college's sustainability efforts,” said Dr. Jacqui Bergman, associate dean for governance and faculty success in the college. “I'm confident that he will continue to build on the impressive work that our faculty has accomplished.”

Gray takes over the role from Dr. Jim Westerman.

Gray is known for his contributions to student development and campus engagement. With a focus on fostering academic success and community connection, he has played a role in supporting students through leadership, advising, and program initiatives. He is recognized for his commitment to enhancing the App State experience and helping students thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Gray earned his MBA and Master of Science in Sustainable Tourism from East Carolina University and is working on his PhD in the Bryan School of Economics and Business at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, with a concentration in sustainable strategy.
