The Walker College of Business has named Dr. Kevin Eller the Kenneth E. Peacock Professor of Accounting, recognizing his longstanding contributions to accounting education, scholarship, and service at Appalachian State University.
The professorship honors the legacy of Dr. Kenneth E. Peacock, Appalachian State's sixth chancellor, former dean of the Walker College of Business, and a longtime accounting professor. Funded in part by alumni, many of whom are former students of Peacock’s, the professorship supports faculty whose engagement and impact significantly advance the college's mission.
Dr. Kevin Eller
A two-time App State alumnus, Eller earned both his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Science in Accounting degrees from the university before completing a Ph.D. in Accounting at Virginia Commonwealth University. He returned to App State as a faculty member and has served in the Department of Accounting since 2015, following an earlier appointment as a lecturer.
Eller's teaching emphasizes helping students understand accounting concepts. Drawing on experience as a tax professional, he incorporates real-world examples, practical applications, and active learning strategies into courses ranging from Principles of Accounting to Individual Income Taxation and Tax Research and Communication.
Eller has twice received a Sywassink Award for Excellence relating to his teaching and service to students. He has also been recognized by students as one of the university's most helpful faculty members and named a Walker College "most memorable professor" by honors students.
Eller's research explores topics including whistleblowing and fraud reporting, earnings management, internal auditor objectivity, corporate social responsibility, and the evolving accounting profession. His work has appeared in journals such as Behavioral Research in Accounting, Journal of Accounting Education, Journal of Information Systems, and Accounting and the Public Interest.
Eller serves as internship director for accounting students, helping connect them with employers and professional opportunities.
