Appalachian Abroad: "We really have a more balanced view of ourselves and our country" Posted on Jan 23, 2013 in International Walker College has recently broadened its international opportunities for students to include trips to study in Cuba. The most recent such program was in early October 2012, when students spent seven days traveling across the country studing business and society. Study Abroad: Senior prepares for life in Asia Walker College provides its students with several opportunities to study overseas, many during the summer months. One such program begins this week, when 15 students leave for a five-week stay in Asia. For senior Tyler Norwood, it's also the beginning of an even longer educational stint. Mountaineers in Malawi, Africa Posted on Feb 28, 2012 in Eleven Walker College students started their 2012 with a study abroad program in Malawi, Africa, one of the poorest countries in the world. The group spent 15 days there, studying first-hand the economic obstacles there, and international aid efforts. Study Abroad: What we learned in Cuba Posted on Feb 7, 2012 in It's International Education Week. To mark the event, Walker College is having two discussion forums Thursday. They are open to all students and faculty. Study Abroad: Sixteen days of education in Africa Posted on Oct 4, 2011 in Malawi and Zambia are two of the poorest countries not just in Africa, but in the world. A variety of efforts are ongoing to alleviate the poverty there, both from governmental and international agencies.
