Appalachian Research in Business Symposium

About the Conference

Dates: Thursday, March 30 - Friday, March 31

Location: All events will be held on the campus of Appalachian State University. Most sessions will be held in Peacock Hall.

Purpose: The purpose of the Appalachian Research in Business Symposium is to provide an opportunity for the business faculty of universities in the Appalachian region to share current research interests and outcomes. Research will be presented in the business areas of Accounting, Business Education, Computer Information Systems, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Hospitality and Tourism, Management, and Marketing. Research in the developmental stage as well as investigations nearing completion are invited. There will be opportunities for audience feed-back and discussion.


Thursday, March 30
6:00-8:00 p.m. – Welcome Beer and Wine Reception and Registration at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, 423 West King Street, Boone.

Friday, March 31
7:00-7:45 a.m. – Registration and light breakfast, Fourth Floor Holland International Engagement Room, Peacock Hall
8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. – Concurrent Sessions, Peacock Hall
12:00-1:00 p.m. – Lunch, Fourth Floor Holland International Engagement Room, Peacock Hall
1:15-2:30 p.m. – Concurrent Sessions, Peacock Hall
3:00 p.m. – Keynote Address, Schaefer Center of Performing Arts

Parking and Transportation

March 30 Reception – Parking is available at the Library Deck (College Street) or next to Peacock Hall on campus.
March 31 Symposium – Parking will be at the Rivers Street Parking deck. Participants should pull a ticket and will receive a parking pass upon check in to turn in when leaving the parking deck.

A shuttle will run from the hotel to the parking deck to Peacock Hall beginning at 6:45 a.m. on Friday, March 31. The shuttle will run again at the conclusion of the keynote address.


Cost for the symposium is $75 per person and includes Thursday’s beer, wine, and hors d’oeuvres reception; light breakfast, lunch and two breaks on Friday; parking and/or shuttle; keynote address; and materials.

Keynote Address

The 2017 ARBS keynote address, sponsored by the Boyles Distinguished Lecture Series, will be held at 3:00 p.m. (tentative) on Friday, March 31 in the Schaefer Center on campus at Appalachian State University.
Held in conjunction with a meeting of Appalachian's Student Chapter of the National Association for Business Economics and the Boyles Series, the keynote address will feature Mr. John Silvia, Chief Economist, Wells Fargo.
