Accounting students log on for firm meet and greet during stay-at-home order

In a successful effort to continue Appalachian State University's normal recruitment process, the Walker College of Business' Department of Accounting recently hosted Firm Meet and Greet, virtually.

Forty two students logged on to meet 40 professionals, representing 14 partnering firms.

Dr. Tracy Reed, who served as a host for the event, said that by utilizing technology features like breakout rooms, students were allowed ample interpersonal interaction with the professionals. "We put each firm in a separate breakout room and then added students to each room, then rotated the students to a different firm every eight minutes," she said.

Reed added that  participants enoyed the event enough to stay longer than expected. "Even after two hours, we still had students and firms that wanted to continue their conversations, so the event lasted about two hours and 40 minutes for some!"

Participating firms included Aprio, BDO, BRC, Cherry Bekaert, CLA, CohnReznick, Deloitte, DHG, Ernst & Young (E&Y), Grant Thornton, GreerWalker, Gould Killian, PwC and Smith Leonard.
