Senior Marcus L. Cox is not only a leader on the football field, but also a future business leader. The Dacula, GA native is majoring in management in the Walker College of Business, where the long-time motto is "the business leaders of tomorrow are at Appalachian today."
Cox became Appalachian State University's all-time leading rusher–surpassing Kevin Richardson's 4,804 yards (2004-08)–during the November 26 victory against Louisiana-Monroe at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone. Then, Cox and his teammates led Appalachian to a wild 31-28 win over Toledo in the Camellia Bowl on December 17. Following the bowl performance, Cox's 5,103 career rushing yards made him the 16th leading rusher in FBS history.
The Walker College of Business boasts a number of high achieving students on both the playing fields and in the classrooms. In 2010 David Towarnicky set the standard in the classroom and on the baseball field, and in 2013 basketball star Nate Healy was the top overall student. Last semester, 44 business student-athletes called the Walker College home.
Walker College of Business Dean Heather Norris met with Cox prior to the conclusion of the football season and fall 2016 academic semester. "With his incredible physical ability, Marcus will probably 'go pro' in football," said Norris. "However, I'm confident that, armed with a Walker College degree, Marcus is also well-prepared to ultimately make an impact in the business world."
