Ed Hassler to serve as MS in Applied Data Analytics director

Dr. Ed Hassler has been named director for the MS in Applied Data Analytics program in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University. 

Hassler, an associate professor in the Department of Computer Information Systems, joined App State’s faculty in 2016. 

He brings to his new role leadership experience as the chief data officer for the university’s Center for Analytic Research and Education and previous service as a master instructor for the U.S. Air Force. Hassler’s background spans academia, military service, and industry.

“Dr. Hassler will be an integral part of the Advanced Studies in Business team, overseeing curriculum development, faculty coordination, student support, and strategic planning for the program,” said Dr. Jason Xiong, associate dean for advanced studies in business.

Hassler’s research interests include data analytics, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. He holds master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Alabama, an MBA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a bachelor’s degree from DeVry University.
