McNeil named chairperson for Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance

Dr. Chris McNeil, an associate professor of finance at Appalachian State University, has been named chair of the Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance in the Walker College of Business, effective July 1, 2018.

McNeil joined Appalachian's faculty in 2004 and has held the Alfred Adams Banking Professorship since 2016.

Previously, McNeil taught at Penn State Erie and the University of Miami.

His professional interests include corporate finance, financial markets and Excel pedagogy (including advanced grading systems). His research has been published in a number of scholarly journals including the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Corporate Finance and Journal of Financial Education.
McNeil received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Wake Forest University and his Ph.D. in international finance from the University of South Carolina.

McNeil takes over the chair role from Delbert Goff, who served as finance chair since July 2016.

"I appreciate Dr. Goff's service to the college," said Walker College Dean Heather Norris. " I look forward to working closely with Dr. McNeil. He brings a wealth of university knowledge and industry engagement to the role."

McNeil joins Department of Accounting chair Doug Roberts, Department of Computer Information Systems & Supply Chain Management Dinesh Davé, Department of Economics chair Todd Cherry, Department of Management chair Jacqui Bergman, and Department of Marketing chair James Stoddard to complete the departmental leadership team in the Walker College.
