Appalachian State University senior Bailey Winecoff has received a nod of approval from the 30th annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR 30) conference administrators. His abstract submission, "Zapp-Cab: Electric Vehicle Transportation Service," was selected for presentation at the conference, which will be held April 7-9 at the University of North Carolina Asheville.
Winecoff is a Sustainable Technology major and Sustainable Business minor at Appalachian who recently participated in a semester-long research project as part of MGT 3300, Sustainable Business-Theory and Practice, which provides a comprehensive exploration of business sustainability issues. Walker College Sustainable Business Director Jim Westerman taught the course, and awarded Winecoff a top spot for his research displayed at the corresponding poster session.
According to his poster:
Zapp-Cab is unlike any taxi company you have been introduced to before. Run by a small student team, Zapp-Cab has taken transportation in Boone to a new level by providing high quality, around the clock service. Zapp-Cab is not only providing an economic service by increasing traffic to local businesses but also a social service by giving rides to those that need it most. Many customers we serve may have not otherwise reached their destination. Whether handicap or homeless Zapp-Cab is committed to serving the community. We at Zapp-Cab realize our country's dependence on fossil fuels and their environmental impact. That is why we use exclusively electric vehicles to provide clean quality transportation services that reduce our carbon footprint on earth.
There were more than 4,000 submissions to the NCUR 30 event, and of those, Winecoff's abstract demonstrated a unique contribution to the field of study. Through the conference, the Waxhaw, NC native will have the opportunity to present Zap Cab to faculty, staff and peers from all over the nation.
