Taylor attains QM course certification for CIS 5630, data management

Chris Taylor, Appalachian State University's cybersecurity coordinator and senior lecturer in the Walker College of Business' Department of Computer Information Systems, has earned the Quality Matters (QM) certification for CIS 5630: Data Management.

Taylor's course prepares students to understand basic concepts of databases, including normalization and denormalization of data in the context of analytics; structured query language (SQL) to extract, manipulate and transform data for data mining-enabled analytical solutions for business problems; use of cloud resources for data storage and access; and emerging trends in data management.

The course is an elective in the MBA Program. Learn about App State's Online MBA program at business.appstate.edu/programs.

CIS 5630 is the 9th QM-certified MBA course and the 28th QM-certified course overall at Appalachian. View a list of QM-certified courses at App State.

Taylor partnered with App State's Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) to attain the certification. CAE offers up to six faculty members the opportunity to participate in the program each year, with a goal to rethink, redesign and apply online pedagogy in the design and development of a high-quality online course.

“With the addition of Mr. Taylor's course, the MBA and WCOB footprint continues to grow among all QM-certified online course offerings at App State," said Greg Simmons, lead CAE consultant for the Walker College of Business. "It remains the largest block of certified courses in any program on our campus.”
