Walker College's AI strategy highlighted in national business education report

The Walker College of Business has received additional national recognition for its artificial intelligence initiatives, earning multiple mentions in the July 2026 update of A Framework for Artificial Intelligence in Business Education, a report supported by AACSB and GMAC.

The report highlights the college's AI concentration pathways in its MBA and Master of Science in Applied Data Analytics programs and notes the college's evolution from a curriculum-focused approach to one that also emphasizes research and workforce development. The Walker College was also featured in the report's "Leadership in Times of Transformation" section, which recognized Dean Sandra Vannoy's leadership of the college's AI task force and identified the college's approach as a strategy any school can run.

At a newly R2-designated regional university, Dean Sandra Vannoy chairs a college-level AI task force spanning teaching, research, operations, and external engagement, executing a clear, campus-aligned strategy that has carried the college from early innovation to scalable integration. Appalachian State demonstrates that transformation leadership is not the province of elite or richly resourced schools; it is a matter of structure, clarity, and follow-through that any institution can practice.

The report includes 84 business schools globally and examines emerging practices in artificial intelligence education.
