At the fourth annual Business for Good conference, two Walker College of Business faculty members, Dr. Heather Dixon-Fowler and Dr. John Whitehead, were honored with 2018 Green E Awards.
The Green E Award recognizes individuals for outstanding accomplishments in the area of sustainable business at Appalachian State University. The "E" stands for Economy, Environment and Equity.
The 2018 awards were presented by Dr. Rajat Panwar, co-director of sustainable business at Appalachian.
Dr. Dixon-Fowler is acting chair for the college's Department of Management, and she received the award for multiple reasons. Having published some of the most impactful research in the sustainable business field, Dr. Dixon-Fowler is a thought leader in sustainability, both on campus and in academia. Additionally, her nominator noted that Dr. Dixon-Fowler has brought influential speakers to campus as well as previous conferences, and she has helped develop the sustainable business minor at Appalachian, which includes piloting new courses and assisting students in sustainable business research.
Dr. John Whitehead, a professor in the Department of Economics, was also a recipient of this award. Whitehead was recognized for his research, his work in establishing and growing the Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Policy & Management at Appalachian. Dr. Whitehead also hosts an environmental economics blog that is a prominent source of information for government officials, faculty, students and the general public. Finally, he was honored for his work conducting cost-benefit analyses on the economic benefits of sustainable business to our community.
The Green E Award is presented by Appalachian's Sustainable Business Collaborative and funded by Holshouser Ethics.
