Daisy Sierra, a computer information systems and cybersecurity double major in the Walker College of Business, was recently featured in an Appalachian Today article titled App State joins FirstGen Forward Network, boosting support for first-generation students.
Sierra is a participant in App State’s TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program, which recently received a five-year, $1.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education. TRIO SSS serves approximately 200 students annually, offering comprehensive services designed to increase the success of low-income, first-generation students.
“Throughout my time here at App, I have made many valuable connections through programs like TRIO SSS, the Martha Guy Fellowship, Women of Walker, and many others,” Sierra said during the Walker College Scholarship Reception on October 24, 2025.
Similar to TRIO SSS, the Martha Guy Fellowship in the Walker College of Business provides tailored support and opportunities to help students thrive both academically and professionally.
