Faculty and staff connect with Appalachia counterparts for Appalachian Research in Business Symposium

Seven representatives from Appalachian State University traveled to Marshall University on March 28 to participate in the 2025 Appalachian Research in Business Symposium.

The annual event provides a forum for presenting new work, discovering contemporary ideas, and building connections among scholars at six regional universities: App State, Eastern Kentucky University, East Tennessee University, Marshall University, Radford University, and Western Carolina University.

Each university's business school hosts the symposium in turn.

The following research from App State faculty and students was featured in the proceedings.

  • Hunter W. Bass, Cassidy Zekas, Leah Uteg-Winkelman, Tim Huelsman, Kristl H. Davison, and Jessica Doll, Scaling DEI: Evaluating Change Preparedness in Organizations
  • Jack Carson and Caleb Pollard, Do Perceptions and Explanations of Supervisor Incivility Vary Based on Leader and Manager Terminology?
  • Brian K. Hasson and C. Kevin Eller, Choosing Between Tax and Audit: A Comparative Analysis and Decision Aid for Accounting Students
  • Tyler Johnson, The Effect of State Corporate Income Tax Conformity Level on State Tax Revenue: Evidence from the TCJA
  • Lubna Nafees and Manan Roy, Digital Consumption and Mental Health: Exploring the Impact on University Students

App State’s Walker College of Business last hosted ARBS in 2017 and had planned to host the 2025 event. However, due to the effects of Hurricane Helene in the fall of 2024, Marshall University hosted the event for a second consecutive year.

ARBS at App State is scheduled for April 16-17, 2026. Learn more at business.appstate.edu/arbs.
