Telework solutions during COVID-19: advice from a human resources perspective

Students in Appalachian State University's Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Human Resource Management (IOHRM) program are addressing key questions facing managers across the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the second video in the HRM Solutions to COVID series, Maira Compagnone, Bill Griffin and Erin Marion offer solutions for managers on effective teleworking practices, noting that the percentage of employees doing telework has recently jumped from 27% to 88%, and 76% of managers report problems with the shift.

In Telework Solutions for COVID, the second in the video series, Appalachian students discuss how to support workers at home (5:30) and how to navigate telework performance management (16:38). They also offer advice on innovating and creating a competitive advantage while at home and provide a case studies of two firms: ECOMIN and HUMIN (21:45).

The students also examine HR responses to technology and security issues, like Zoom-bombing (39:00), emerging tips and tricks including the use of webconference platforms for video signatures to speed up document approvals, and cutting-edge strategies for the telework future.
