Dixon-Fowler takes over the role from Jacqui Bergman, who has served as management chair since 2012 and will serve as interim vice provost for faculty affairs at Appalachian for the coming academic year.
"Dr. Dixon-Fowler served effectively as assistant department chair during the past academic year; the transition to leading the department will be a smooth one," said Walker College Dean Heather Norris. "I am grateful to her for her dedicated service."
Dixon-Fowler joined the faculty at Appalachian in 2009 and has previously served as director for the center for entrepreneurship. She currently holds a Dean's Club Professorship in the Walker College.
Dixon-Fowler earned a PhD in Business Administration with an emphasis in corporate strategy from the University of Arkansas where she also worked as part of the founding team at the Applied Sustainability Center. She is one of two newly appointed members of the Walker College leadership team for 2018-19.
As interim vice provost, Bergman will lead policy development, implementation and assessment, particularly in relation to faculty matters; provide oversight and support for revision and interpretation of the Faculty Handbook; work with the provost, faculty, departmental chairs and deans; provide clear understanding of promotion, tenure, and reappointment and other faculty personnel policies; and serve as Academic Affairs liaison on all personnel matters and work closely with the Office of Equity, Diversity and Compliance and the Office of the General Counsel.
